<p> 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.<br />
 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 &#8220;Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.&#8221; 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.</p>

 15 &#8220;Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep&#8217;s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.<br />
 21 &#8220;Not everyone who says to me, &#8216;Lord, Lord,&#8217; will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, &#8216;Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?&#8217; 23 Then I will tell them plainly, &#8216;I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!&#8217;<br />
 24 &#8220;Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.&#8221;<br />
 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.</p>

 3 &#8220;Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother&#8217;s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, &#8216;Let me take the speck out of your eye,&#8217; when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother&#8217;s eye.<br />
 6 &#8220;Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.<br />
 7 &#8220;Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.<br />
 9 &#8220;Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.</p>

 14 &#8220;I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.&#8221;</p>

<p> 1 The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, &#8220;There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.<br />
 4 &#8220;Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.&#8221;<br />
 5 David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, &#8220;As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die! 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.&#8221;<br />
 7 Then Nathan said to David, &#8220;You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: &#8216;I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.</p>

Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?<br />
 28 &#8220;And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, &#8216;What shall we eat?&#8217; or &#8216;What shall we drink?&#8217; or &#8216;What shall we wear?&#8217; 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.</p>

 5 &#8220;And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.<br />

 16 &#8220;When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.</p>

 3 Then Peter said, &#8220;Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn&#8217;t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn&#8217;t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.&#8221;<br />
 5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.<br />
 7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, &#8220;Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?&#8221;<br />
      &#8220;Yes,&#8221; she said, &#8220;that is the price.&#8221;<br />
 9 Peter said to her, &#8220;How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.&#8221;<br />
 10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.</p>

 33 &#8220;Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, &#8216;Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.&#8217; 34 But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God&#8217;s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 Simply let your &#8216;Yes&#8217; be &#8216;Yes,&#8217; and your &#8216;No,&#8217; &#8216;No&#8217;; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.</p>

 4 &#8220;Haven&#8217;t you read,&#8221; he replied, &#8220;that at the beginning the Creator &#8216;made them male and female,&#8217; 5 and said, &#8216;For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh&#8217;? 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.&#8221;<br />
 7 &#8220;Why then,&#8221; they asked, &#8220;did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?&#8221;<br />
 8 Jesus replied, &#8220;Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.&#8221;<br />
 10 The disciples said to him, &#8220;If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.&#8221;<br />
 11 Jesus replied, &#8220;Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.&#8221;</p>

<p> 1 If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, 2 and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man, 3 and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies, 4 then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled. That would be detestable in the eyes of the LORD. Do not bring sin upon the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.</p>

But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.</p>
<p> 43 &#8220;You have heard that it was said, &#8216;You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.&#8217; 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.</p>

<p> 2 And there was a man in Maon whose business was in Carmel. The man was very rich; he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was shearing his sheep in Carmel. 3 Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. The woman was discerning and beautiful, but the man was harsh and badly behaved; he was a Calebite. 4 David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep. 5 So David sent ten young men. And David said to the young men, &#8220;Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal and greet him in my name. 6 And thus you shall greet him: &#8216;Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. 7 I hear that you have shearers. Now your shepherds have been with us, and we did them no harm, and they missed nothing all the time they were in Carmel. 8 Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a feast day. Please give whatever you have at hand to your servants and to your son David.&#8217;&#8221;<br />
 9 When David’s young men came, they said all this to Nabal in the name of David, and then they waited. 10 And Nabal answered David’s servants, &#8220;Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants these days who are breaking away from their masters. 11 Shall I take my bread and my water and my meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it to men who come from I do not know where?&#8221; 12 So David’s young men turned away and came back and told him all this. 13 And David said to his men, &#8220;Every man strap on his sword!&#8221; And every man of them strapped on his sword. David also strapped on his sword. And about four hundred men went up after David, while two hundred remained with the baggage.<br />
 14 But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, &#8220;Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to greet our master, and he railed at them. 15 Yet the men were very good to us, and we suffered no harm, and we did not miss anything when we were in the fields, as long as we went with them. 16 They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep. 17 Now therefore know this and consider what you should do, for harm is determined against our master and against all his house, and he is such a worthless man that one cannot speak to him.&#8221;<br />
 18 Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves and two skins of wine and five sheep already prepared and five seahs of parched grain and a hundred clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys. 19 And she said to her young men, &#8220;Go on before me; behold, I come after you.&#8221; But she did not tell her husband Nabal. 20 And as she rode on the donkey and came down under cover of the mountain, behold, David and his men came down toward her, and she met them. 21 Now David had said, &#8220;Surely in vain have I guarded all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him, and he has returned me evil for good. 22 God do so to the enemies of David and more also, if by morning I leave so much as one male of all who belong to him.&#8221;<br />
 23 When Abigail saw David, she hurried and got down from the donkey and fell before David on her face and bowed to the ground. 24 She fell at his feet and said, &#8220;On me alone, my lord, be the guilt. Please let your servant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your servant. 25 Let not my lord regard this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him. But I your servant did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent. 26 Now then, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, because the LORD has restrained you from bloodguilt and from saving with your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal. 27 And now let this present that your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord. 28 Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the LORD, and evil shall not be found in you so long as you live. 29 If men rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living in the care of the LORD your God. And the lives of your enemies he shall sling out as from the hollow of a sling. 30 And when the LORD has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and has appointed you prince over Israel, 31 my lord shall have no cause of grief or pangs of conscience for having shed blood without cause or for my lord taking vengeance himself. And when the LORD has dealt well with my lord, then remember your servant.&#8221;<br />
 32 And David said to Abigail, &#8220;Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! 33 Blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodguilt and from avenging myself with my own hand! 34 For as surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there had not been left to Nabal so much as one male.&#8221; 35 Then David received from her hand what she had brought him. And he said to her, &#8220;Go up in peace to your house. See, I have obeyed your voice, and I have granted your petition.&#8221;</p>

Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, &#8220;Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.&#8221; 20 To the contrary, &#8220;if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.&#8221; 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.</p>

Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.<br />

 39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, &#8220;Blessed be the LORD who has avenged the insult I received at the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from wrongdoing. The LORD has returned the evil of Nabal on his own head.&#8221; </p>

 19 A righteous man may have many troubles,<br />

 21 Evil will slay the wicked;<br />
       the foes of the righteous will be condemned.<br />
 22 The LORD redeems his servants;<br />
       no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.</p>

 9 For evil men will be cut off,<br />
       but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.<br />
 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;<br />
       though you look for them, they will not be found.<br />
 11 But the meek will inherit the land<br />
       and enjoy great peace.<br />
 12 The wicked plot against the righteous<br />
       and gnash their teeth at them;<br />
 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,<br />
       for he knows their day is coming.<br />
 14 The wicked draw the sword<br />
       and bend the bow<br />
       to bring down the poor and needy,<br />
       to slay those whose ways are upright.<br />
 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,<br />
       and their bows will be broken.<br />
 16 Better the little that the righteous have<br />
       than the wealth of many wicked;<br />
 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,<br />
       but the LORD upholds the righteous.<br />
 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD,<br />
       and their inheritance will endure forever.<br />
 19 In times of disaster they will not wither;<br />
       in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.<br />
 20 But the wicked will perish:<br />
       The LORD&#8217;s enemies will be like the beauty of the fields,<br />
       they will vanish—vanish like smoke.<br />
 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,<br />
       but the righteous give generously;<br />
 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land,<br />
       but those he curses will be cut off.<br />
 23 If the LORD delights in a man&#8217;s way,<br />
       he makes his steps firm;<br />
 24 though he stumble, he will not fall,<br />
       for the LORD upholds him with his hand.<br />
 25 I was young and now I am old,<br />
       yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken<br />
       or their children begging bread.<br />
 26 They are always generous and lend freely;<br />
       their children will be blessed.<br />
 27 Turn from evil and do good;<br />
       then you will dwell in the land forever.<br />
 28 For the LORD loves the just<br />
       and will not forsake his faithful ones.<br />
       They will be protected forever,<br />
       but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;<br />
 29 the righteous will inherit the land<br />
       and dwell in it forever.<br />
 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom,<br />
       and his tongue speaks what is just.<br />
 31 The law of his God is in his heart;<br />
       his feet do not slip.<br />
 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous,<br />
       seeking their very lives;<br />
 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power<br />
       or let them be condemned when brought to trial.<br />
 34 Wait for the LORD<br />
       and keep his way.<br />
       He will exalt you to inherit the land;<br />
       when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.<br />
 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man<br />
       flourishing like a green tree in its native soil,<br />
 36 but he soon passed away and was no more;<br />
       though I looked for him, he could not be found.<br />
 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright;<br />
       there is a future for the man of peace.<br />
 38 But all sinners will be destroyed;<br />
       the future of the wicked will be cut off.<br />
 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;<br />
       he is their stronghold in time of trouble.<br />
 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them;<br />
       he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,<br />
       because they take refuge in him.</p>

       he will not see prosperity when it comes.<br />
       He will dwell in the parched places of the desert,<br />
       in a salt land where no one lives.<br />
 7 &#8220;But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,<br />
       whose confidence is in him.<br />
 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water<br />
       that sends out its roots by the stream.<br />
       It does not fear when heat comes;<br />
       its leaves are always green.<br />
       It has no worries in a year of drought<br />
       and never fails to bear fruit.&#8221;<br />
 9 The heart is deceitful above all things<br />
       and beyond cure.<br />
       Who can understand it?<br />
 10 &#8220;I the LORD search the heart<br />
       and examine the mind,<br />
       to reward a man according to his conduct,<br />
       according to what his deeds deserve.&#8221;</p>

It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.</p>

The man said, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?&#8221; 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her.</p>

<p> 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, &#8220;Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?&#8221; 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.</p>
<p>   But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, &#8220;If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.&#8221; 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.</p>
<p> 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, &#8220;Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?&#8221;</p>
<p> 11 &#8220;No one, sir,&#8221; she said.<br />
      &#8220;Then neither do I condemn you,&#8221; Jesus declared. &#8220;Go now and leave your life of sin.&#8221;</p>

<p> 21&#8243;You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, &#8216;Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.&#8217; 22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, &#8216;Raca,&#8217; is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, &#8216;You fool!&#8217; will be in danger of the fire of hell.</p>
<p> 23&#8243;Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.</p>
<p> 25&#8243;Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.</p>

<p>10&#8243;Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: &#8216;God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.&#8217;</p>
<p> 13&#8243;But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, &#8216;God, have mercy on me, a sinner.&#8217;</p>

<p>The Sermon on the Mount</p>
<p> 1Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.</p>
<p>The Beatitudes</p>
<p> 2And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:<br />
 3 &#8220;Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.<br />
 4&#8243;Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.<br />
 5&#8243;Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.<br />
 6&#8243;Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.<br />
 7&#8243;Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.<br />
 8&#8243;Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.<br />
 9&#8243;Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.<br />
 10 &#8220;Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.<br />
 11 &#8220;Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.</p>
<p>Salt and Light</p>
<p> 13&#8243;You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.<br />
 14 &#8220;You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.</p>
<p>Christ Came to Fulfill the Law</p>
<p> 17 &#8220;Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s Friday. 1pm. At this time of day, a little over 2000 years ago, the sky was dark, and Jesus Christ was hours away from taking His last breath on the cross and proclaiming that it was finished. He had accomplished all the work that His Father had given Him to do.<br />
The verses the worship team is memorizing this week are so appropriate;</p>
<p><a class="bibleref" title="Colossians 1:19-20" href="http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=Colossians+1%3A19-20">Colossians 1:19-20</a> &#8220;For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.&#8221;</p>
<p>On the cross, Christ not only reconciled His elect, chosen people to the Father (things on earth), but He reconciled God&#8217;s perfect justice with the fact that He had, in mercy, overlooked sins in the past (things in heaven). Jesus was so passionate to see God&#8217;s righteousness displayed that He was willing to suffer infinite pain and shame to accomplish it. His reconciliation of sinners to the Father in love is, ultimately, a display of His devotion to the glory of God, and is an infinite display of His love for the Father, who delights to display His glory by showing infinite love to undeserving sinners.</p>
<p>I pray that you might take the time to memorize and meditate on these verses this week. If you get a chance to check out <a href="http://nathansmith.2riverschurch.com">my blog</a>,  I wrote about a time last week that God blessed me with an overwhelming vision of Christ. I pray that you take the time to seek that same kind of vision this weekend as we celebrate the historical event that sets Christianity apart from all other religions in the world. We follow a living, powerful, wonderful Lord and Savior who has rescued us from our sin; who is alive and is preparing a place for us right now, where we can enjoy Him in all His glory forever! Amen!</p>
