April 05, 2008 | Corporate Worship, Know the Story

Here’s an interesting question that I’ve been asked recently: How does a lengthy guitar solo during a time of corporate worship fit into honoring and worshiping God without lifting up man?

My short answer is Psalm 33:3;

“Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.”

March 21, 2008 | Corporate Worship, Know the Story

It’s Friday. 1pm. At this time of day, a little over 2000 years ago, the sky was dark, and Jesus Christ was hours away from taking His last breath on the cross and proclaiming that it was finished. He had accomplished all the work that His Father had given Him to do.
The verses the worship team is memorizing this week are so appropriate;

Colossians 1:19-20 “For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.”

On the cross, Christ not only reconciled His elect, chosen people to the Father (things on earth), but He reconciled God’s perfect justice with the fact that He had, in mercy, overlooked sins in the past (things in heaven). Jesus was so passionate to see God’s righteousness displayed that He was willing to suffer infinite pain and shame to accomplish it. His reconciliation of sinners to the Father in love is, ultimately, a display of His devotion to the glory of God, and is an infinite display of His love for the Father, who delights to display His glory by showing infinite love to undeserving sinners.

I pray that you might take the time to memorize and meditate on these verses this week. If you get a chance to check out my blog, I wrote about a time last week that God blessed me with an overwhelming vision of Christ. I pray that you take the time to seek that same kind of vision this weekend as we celebrate the historical event that sets Christianity apart from all other religions in the world. We follow a living, powerful, wonderful Lord and Savior who has rescued us from our sin; who is alive and is preparing a place for us right now, where we can enjoy Him in all His glory forever! Amen!

blessings,
